Our Company:
DigitalOptometrics LLC is a leading and rapidly growing nationwide telehealth company specializing in providing software and services to eye care professionals engaged in the performance of quality comprehensive eye examinations on patients of those rendering optometric health services in private industry and government. We seek to employ a full-time experienced Cost Accountant with a primary work location at the company's corporate office in Lake Success, N.Y.
Job Summary: The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing and controlling the organization's costs, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and providing valuable insights to support strategic decision-making. This role involves working closely with various departments to collect, analyze, and report cost data, as well as implementing and maintaining cost accounting systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Analysis:
- Conduct regular analysis of product costs, manufacturing processes, and overhead expenses.
- Identify and investigate variances between actual costs and standard costs.
- Analyze cost trends and provide recommendations for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely cost reports for management, including cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure proper integration of cost data into overall financial reporting.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities related to cost accounting.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop cost budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor actual performance against budgeted figures and provide explanations for variances.
- Assist in the preparation of financial projections related to cost components.
- Inventory Management:
- Work closely with the inventory control team to ensure accurate valuation and reporting of inventory.
- Perform periodic inventory reconciliations and coordinate with operations to address discrepancies.
- Process Improvement:
- Continuously evaluate and enhance cost accounting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement best practices in cost accounting and recommend system enhancements.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Maintain proper documentation of cost accounting policies and procedures.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with production, procurement, and other departments to gather relevant cost data.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to address inquiries and provide insights.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., CMA, CPA) is preferred.
- Proven experience in cost accounting roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in cost accounting software and ERP systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
